The Role
To strengthen our Legal & Compliance function, we are looking for an experienced Financial Crime Compliance Manager, with a mandate to lead our Group-wide strategy across Italy and the UK.
Reporting to the Head of Compliance, you will be responsible for setting the strategic direction, ensuring full regulatory alignment, and overseeing all aspects of AML/CTF, sanctions, fraud prevention, and onboarding controls. You will act as a key point of reference for the Board and Executive Committee, ensuring that our growth remains sustainable and compliant with international standards.
Main responsibilities/activities:
- Strategic Leadership: Lead and enhance the Group Financial Crime Framework, defining policies and the corporate risk appetite.
- Operational Oversight: Supervise AML/CTF controls, KYC/CDD/EDD processes, transaction monitoring, and digital onboarding workflows.
- Risk Assessment: Own the annual Financial Crime Risk Assessment and conduct key thematic reviews to identify and mitigate emerging threats.
- Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) for interactions with the FCA, Bank of Italy, and CONSOB.
- Reporting & Insights: Prepare high-quality Management Information (MI) and reporting for the Board, ExCo, and Risk Committee.
- Investigations & Law Enforcement: Lead internal investigations, draft SARs/STRs, and maintain direct liaison with FIUs and law enforcement agencies.
- Fraud & Cyber Security: Oversee fraud risk management, specifically addressing cyber-enabled and identity-related threats.
- Technology Roadmap: Manage AML/KYC/TM technology vendors and contribute to the evolution of the Financial Crime tech stack.
- Culture & Training: Deliver specialized training programs to promote a strong culture of awareness and proactive escalation across the business.
Requirements:
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in AML/Financial Crime within Fintech, Wealth Management, or broader Financial Services.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of FCA, Bank of Italy, and CONSOB rules, as well as MLR 2017, JMLSG, and EU AML frameworks.
- Geographical Scope: Proven experience leading Financial Crime frameworks in a multi-jurisdictional environment (UK and Italy).
- Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with digital onboarding, screening, and transaction monitoring systems.
- Communication: Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at Board and ExCo level.
- Languages: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential. Italian language skills or direct experience dealing with Italian regulators is required.
- Mindset: A proactive, analytical approach with the ability to bridge the gap between complex regulation and digital-first business operations.
Plus (Desirable):
- Experience in digital wealth management or robo-advisory sectors.
- Exposure to AI/ML-enabled AML or fraud detection tools.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Law, Finance, Risk, Criminology, or a related field.
- Professional certification (ICA, ACAMS, CISI Financial Crime, or equivalent).
